Dear Registrants,
I have been committed to conducting the July 25-26 Tri-State
Open and Invitation at Rider University. I was prepared to
conduct it as a one day meet, if necessary. I cannot commit myself to a
event that only has 72 athletes confirmed. That is not enough athletes
to have a competitive event. There are too many events where there is
one or no competitor.
I was determined to host this event. In all the years I have been
associated with track and field I have not witnessed the number of
cancelled events as this year has experienced. In order to have a
competitive event we needed a minimum of 150 athletes for a one day
event.
I cannot with a clear conscience have athletes arrive to find they have
spent money on travel, hotel and fees for a non-competitive event.
Seventy-two contestants in a single age group meet is a non-competitive
event. It is for that reason alone that I must cancel this
event.
Thank you for your effort to compete. With a heavy heart I apologize
for any inconvenience we have caused.
Sincerely,
Ron McBride, Meet Director
